<text>
Oliver "Swat" Warila was a commercial photographer based in Maynard from about 1960 through 1980. Most of the photographs in this collection are from negatives taken by Swat, the majority are from the 1960s.

Swat was born in Maynard and lived there all his life. He was a Selectman, School Committee member and an officer in the Maynard Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Maynard Lodge of Elks and the Waverly Post VFW Band.

Approximately 7000 4x5 negatives were donated. The majority of them are either family / business portraits or scenes we have determined were not in Maynard. This collection are from the negatives most representative of life in Maynard.

We are indebted to a number of people who have helped identify a large number of these photos, but special thanks to Paul Boothroyd and Tom Sheridan for their many contributions.
</text>
