Monographs, by nature, are focused and detailed research on a single topic (places, people, events, etc.) Many of these monographs, especially by guest authors outside of the Society's research team, contain personal anecdotes and details of life in town during their lifetime.

In the years preceding the 1971 Centennial of Maynard the rather new Maynard Historical Society gathered a series of monographs on a wide variety of topics. 96 papers, written by primarily by Birger Koski and Ralph Sheridan, plus a number of "guest" authors, many of these were read at Historical Society meetings in the late 1960's and then became source material for the 1871-1971 History of Maynard book written for the Centennial of the Town. Monographs from that project are titled as a "Centennial Monograph",

<text>Donald Lent was born in Tiverton, Nova Scotia, Canada. His parents were Charles and Harriet Lent, Don being the youngest of seven children. The family immigrated to Maynard in 1899. They were farmers in Tiverton and were farmers in Maynard. The Lent 52-acre farm on Puffer Road was one of the parcels taken by eminent domain in 1942 to make way for the Maynard Ordnance Supply Depot. Don served in the Canadian Expedition Force during WWI becoming a naturalized US citizen in 1932.

Don excelled as a three-sport athlete while attending Maynard High School: football, baseball, and basketball, graduating in 1916. He was acclaimed in the 1971 History of Maynard book as Maynard's finest athlete. After the war, Don attended Massachusetts Agricultural College (now UMass) in Amherst. He continued starring in football, baseball, basketball, and track, being named in 1920 as the All New England football player of the year.

1921-1926:
During this time, Don played semi-pro baseball, coached the high school football, baseball, and basketball teams, and married Evelyn Pineo. They had four children: Ann, Donald, Jr., Charles, and David. He started his teaching career in 1926: Math, Biology, and Science. Don continued to coach until 1932. His teams won both the Midland and Middlesex League championships.

1930s and 1940s:
Don was Superintendent of Maynard Schools, 1939-1941; served as a Selectman for five years, 1934-35, 1937-39, 1940-42; administered the E.R.A. and W.P.A. that implemented many projects: construction of Alumni Field, the Field House, bandstand at Crowe Park, Alumni Field grandstands, the hockey rink, and the track. He also oversaw extension of the town's drainage system, sewer system, sidewalks, and water system.

Throughout his life Don was active in a variety of civic and private endeavors including: as a member of the Masons, coaching Little League, United Co-operative Society Board of Directors member, served on the town's Finance, By-Laws and Power & Light Committee. He was Superintendent of Public Works from 1960 to 1966 improving water and sewer system, creating a road management system and updated financial controls. In his retirement years, he still stayed involved. Don consulted with the Centennial Committee in 1971 and was always available for a question at his Fowler Street home. After his death a tribute memorial was published in the 1978 Annual Report.

<text>This photo was taken sometime before his death in 1891.
Abel C. Livermore was born on September 19, 1824 in Weston, Massachusetts the son of Daniel and Hannah Livermore. He married Olive V. Winch on June 6, 1851 in Weston. They did not have any children. The following is an account of his life and accidental death on March 21, 1891 taken from a newspaper of the time:
"Dr. A. C. Livermore of Stow, one of the oldest and best known physicians in this vicinity, was struck by the 8:30 train out of Maynard Sunday evening while attempting to cross the track at the Russell crossing about one mile west of town. The train, which leaves Boston at seven o'clock had left South Acton on time and was running at its usual rate of speed. When nearing the crossing the fireman on whose side of the train the team was approaching saw it and thought the horse was running away. The next moment the train struck the team, knocking the horse to the right and forward, leaving it some distance up the track. The carriage was badly smashed, the doctor being thrown out and left with the team on the left hand side of the track"¦ Dr. Livermore, with both legs broken, one in two or three places, an arm dislocated and his skull fractured, was entirely unconscious after being struck and expired at about 9:40 PM"¦
The scene of the accident is only about a mile and a half from his home. He has always been noted as a fast driver, never keeping a poor horse and has had several narrow escapes on the railroad, notably a few years since at the crossing near the Co-operative block in Maynard. His practice extended over Stow, Hudson, Maynard, Bolton, Sudbury and all the towns in this vicinity and there will be found many families in these towns who have never had any other physicians. A.C. Livermore, M.D. was born in Sudbury (Weston), Mass., September 19, 1824 and therefore in his 67th year. When he was about 25 years of age he commenced practice as a botanic physician, but soon changed his views, and, taking a course at the Harvard Medical School, graduated and thereafter practiced as an allopathic physician in regular standing."
