Title
The Stow Cook Book
Description
The Stow Cook Book, published by The Ladies Aid Society of the Union Evangelical Church, is a soft cover booklet
While the book has no publication date, we believe the booklet's is likely from 1917 to 1920. One reason for the later dates is ads for Johnson's Service Station, Coughlan's Garage, the Maynard Garage, Maynard Motor, and W. S. Haynes Co., all five of which are in Maynard and all five of which sell automobiles and/or trucks. Broad's Garage of Hudson also has an ad for cars and trucks. There are also several ads for Maynard garages for auto service and repair. An ad for Murphy and Snyder, printers, with the phone number 14-4. Murphy and Snyder was founded in 1917.
The booklet is rich in ads and in personal sponsorships. Eighty to ninety percent of the ads are for Maynard. A rough count has over sixty business ads specifically referencing Maynard.
In addition to the Maynard ads, there are ads for (a) several businesses in Hudson, (a) three businesses in Stow, (c) the Gleasondale Woolen Mills, and (d) Reed's Hay and Grain in South Acton. There is also a sponsorship by Charles E. Fletcher of Stow.
NOTE: We have provided a full, searchable copy of the book, but the extensive use of fancy-pants Gothic fonts means the text on many pages was not recognized.
