Description
The history of the church extends back to when the area was referred to as Assabet Village. Church organization was discussed at a meeting for the purpose of having Methodist preaching in the village of Assabet on February 2, 1867. By September of that year all was in readiness for the signatures of the members on the Declaration and Pledge. The first minister was Rev. J. A. DeForest, appointed in 1867. By 1868 there were 112 members in the Sunday School, with 14 teachers. The current church at the intersection of Main and Summers Streets was built in the late 1890s.
