Remains of the John Dean house on Acton Street. It was in this house on December 17, 1896 that John Dean was murdered by Lorenzo Barnes. "The last execution by hanging in Massachusetts was in the jail at East Cambridge on March 4, 1898. Lorenzo Barnes was hanged for the murder of John Dean on Dec. 17, 1896."
