"The Finnish Workingmen's Association" Incorporation Accounts
Description
This book contains minutes of the September 19, 1910 meeting at which The Finnish Workingmen's Association, Taisto, of Maynard was formed. The purpose of said corporation shall be: to influence among the laboring classes in Maynard a feeling of self-reliance, to elevate them intellectually, morally and financially and to cultivate amongst its members a taste for literature by establishing and maintaining places for reading rooms and social meetings.
First officiers elected were Otto Fonsell, president; Kalle Laine, treasurer; Kristian Kemppinen, clerk; Kalle Laine, Kristian Kemppinen and Niilo Hirvonen, directors; Malakias Saari and Svante Lilja, auditors.
The book contains minutes of the Board of Directors meetings from April 8, 1934 to Feb. 9, 1941. Much of the board's time was taken by the upkeep of the property at Voses Pond. As the depression deepened there were already attempts at selling the property in the 1930's.
The seal and sample page shown.
