John Stein (Sten) was born in Finland, 1860. He emigrated to the US in 1890. John settled in Vinalhaven, Maine with his wife, Mary K. Miller (Marja Myllynen), born in Finland. They had six children, four lived to adulthood (Walfred, Mary, Otto, and ___?).
John Stein moved his family to the 80 acre Stein Farm, Old Harvard Road, Stow, MA, in 1916. The Stein Family resided there for 52 years, 1916-1968.
Walfred Stein (b. 7-8-1897-Vinalhaven, ME), son of John and Mary Miller Stein, resided at 19 Waltham St., Maynard, MA for a number years with his wife Mary Jussila Stein. Walfred Stein served in the Merchant Marines during WWI, with an Honorable Discharge. He later qualified as a stationary engineer and retired from Raytheon Corp. in 1965.
Mary Jussila Stein came to the US in 1913 when she was 13 years old. She lived her entire life in Maynard, MA. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Gusti (Kustaa) Jussila of Finland. Mr. Jussila immigrated ca 1900, and worked for the American Woolen Co., Maynard, MA.
Walfred Stein and Mary Jussila Stein had a son, Paul Stein (b.1928), and a daughter, Jean Stein (b.1930).
Paul and Jean both attended college, Harvard University('50) and Simmons College('52), respectively.
