These buttonhole scissors were owned and used by Mrs. James J. Morgan.

Buttonhole scissors are made for making buttonholes without stretching or damaging the fabric. The first United States patent for a scissor-style buttonhole cutter was in 1853 and was granted to Halsey D. Walcott of Massachusetts.

This particular pair of scissors were made in Solingen, Germany.
