Historic Gavel - 1950
Description
This gavel is made from "original material" from the White House, Washington, DC. The material was removed while remodeling during the Truman Administration (1945-53). Some of this wood material was sent to Mr. James B. Farrell by Congressman Philbin. Mr. Farrell had the gavel made and presented it to Mr. Philip Wilson, Town Moderator. Mr. Wilson used it during his twenty years as Moderator, until his retirement in 1967. He returned the gavel to Mr. Farrell, who in turn presented it to the Maynard Historical Society.
