Title

Maydale Tonic Bottle Collection

Description

A collection of 75 Maydale tonic bottles. They are 8 oz. glass bottles with the following words on the surface: "Maydale Registered, Maydale Spring, Maynard, Mass.".

These bottles contained gingerale, root beer and orange tonic. The orange tonic was named "First", the company's number one seller. K. Paul Hilander was the manager/owner of the company.

The Maynard Bottling Company was established in 1899 by Waino Keto. In 1914 the company was bought by K. Paul Hilander. It was originally located at Florida Rd. and Euclid Ave., Maynard, Mass. It moved to Glendale St. and changed to the Maydale Spring Company. It went out of business in the mid-1950's.

The root beer bottle was found by Elizabeth Schnair in her store in September 1972 during renovations.
