Description

The Mossman family were one of the original settlers of the Sudbury Plantation . Mary Mossman Gilbert (a descendent) married Ebenezer Stuart (the son of an old Sudbury family) in 1838. Their Sudbury farm was incorporated into the Town of Maynard in 1871. The artifacts below came to the William McGarry family in 1900 through marriage. From William McGarry the artifacts passed to Robert McGarry and then to Bruce McGarry.

These artifacts include: a shawl pin; boy's whistle; "Minnie Ball"; Adm. Dewey souvenir spoon; tie pin; small wooden box; Civil War money script; a silver staple puller; a piece of old linen made by Mary Stuart in ca1850; and, a Mossman/Stuart spoon.

The shawl pin was noted as being very old. The boys whistle was used in 1850. The "Minnie Ball' was found after the Battle at Fortress Monroe, VA, in 1861. The Admiral Dewey Souvenir Spoon depicts the a picture of Adm. Dewey and an imprint of the battleship Olympia in the Spanish American War, 1898. The tie pin was made from a dime, 1905. The wooden box was made ca1800. There were 3 garnets found inside the box owned by Hattie Harwood. The fragment of the US Civil War money script is from the early 1860s.
