Title
Cigar Maker's Tools
Description
This cigar maker's cutting block was used by George White, with a possible hand-me-down from John Connors and Cornelius J. Lynch, prior owners of the cigar business.
Used by George E. White, who owned and operated a cigar manufacturing shop in the basement of Masonic Block, Main Street, from 1916 to 1922, and made such brands as "Middlesex"- 10 cents - and "Captor"-5 cents.
John W. Connors in 1900 was making cigars in his factory in Loew's Block (now the Pizza House) on Nason Street. He made the "J.W.C" and "Forester" and the "Home Market Club". Cornelius J. Lynch bought out Mr. Connors in 1910 and due to the increase in business moved the location to the Masonic Block, Main Street. He produced the 'Middlesex" and "Captor". Mr. George E. White purchased the business in 1916 and sold it to William Irwin in 1922, who operated the shop for a few years. Mr. Irwin had been making cigars in Maynard since the 1880's.
