May Procession
Musical Exercises Under Direction of Choir Master Hilferty
At the annual May Procession at St. Bridget's Church, at three o'clock, Sunday afternoon, more than two hundred children participated. The procession was formed in the basement of the church and marched up into the main auditorium, where the parade passed through the aisles in the following order: Walter Mullin, cross bearer; altar boys, Leo Fowler, William Dwyer, George Howes, Harold Kelly, Harold Powers, John Dewire, Edward Johnson, Winthrop Cuddy, Edward Murphy, Albert Riley, Frank Kane, and Matthew Powers.
These were followed by fifty girls clad in white dresses and long, flowing white veils; following the girls in white there were forty-five other girls and one hundred boys. The boys were followed by Miss Carolyn Hubert, who crowned the Queen of May. Miss Helen Morgan was Maid of Honor; Miss Maud Cowles and Miss Gertrude Murphy were flower bearers, all of whom were accompanied by Rev. Father Walter J. Browne. In this order the procession marched through the aisles of the church. After the children were seated, the five last mentioned took a position in front of the altar of the Blessed Virgin and crowned her "Queen of May". Rev. Walter J. Browne then read "The Act of Consecration", all of the children repeating. This was followed by the rosary and litany, after which Father Browne gave instructions, and this was followed by the Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
The musical part of the exercises were under the direction of Choir Master A. A. Hilferty. There were solos by Alice Crotty, who sang "On This Day, O Beautiful Mother"; Miss Irene O'Donnell sang "Glorious Mother". The choir sang the closing hymn, "To The Holy Name" written by Cardinal O'Connell. There was a very large congregation, and the exercises were conducted by Rev. Walter J. Browne.
