Cabinet Card
Cabinet cards were popular from the 1870's through the 1920's. The have a thin gelatin (black and white) or albumen (sepia) print pasted on heavy card stock, usually 4 ¼ x 6 ½ in. The subject matter was a formal portrait of a single individual or group. The card was large enough that it could be seen mounted on a cabinet across a room hence the name Cabinet card. The photographer also appreciated the extra room on the card for name recognition on the front and back.
