Title

Film on Maynard in 1921
Maynard - 1921

Description

A 16 mm film taken in 1921 during and after the Fiftieth Anniversary celebration of the founding of the Town of Maynard. 1921 was a big year in Maynard. Mr. Samuel Lerer, member of the Board of Selectmen and prominent businessman had a moving picture theatre in Riverside Hall (above Gruber Furniture) and he had a film made of many people, places and events during the celebration. This film was shown annually at the People's Theatre on Nason St.. Burton Coughlin ran the Peoples' until 1949 when he built the Fine Arts Theatre on Summer St. in what was his father's former livery stable and garage. The film became very dilapidated and he salvaged what he could and had it made into a new film which he presented to the MHS, where it has been shown only on special occasions.
