Subject
The clock tower was built in 1892 under the auspices of Lorenzo Maynard for the Assabet Mfg. Co in memory of his father, Amory Maynard. The construction was supervised by Levi R. Cheney, a local carpenter and builder. Clock and tower was restored in 1980 by the Digital Equipment Corporation, then the owner of the mill complex. The clock continues to by hand wound weekly and an image of the tower is incorporated in the Town Seal.
