Title

The B. & M. R. R. Station, Maynard, Mass
P7336

Description

Postmark in Maynard on July 8, 1915, repostmarked via APO Liverpool Aug. 10, 1915.

The photograph shows the Maynard Railroad Station (Depot) serving the Boston and Maine Railroad.

The photo was take from the railroad tracks or just a bit beyond - what is contemporary Railroad Street. The railroad signal tower is visible in the foreground near where the stamp was torn out.

Signage includes a sign that reads:
Western Union
TELEGRAPH
& Cable Office

Western Union telegraph lines ran alongside many rail lines, so their offices were extremely common in railway stations.

A number of passengers awaiting a train, or just hangers on, are on the platform. Two sets of freight are also being tended to to the right of the station. One of the frames is marked "NAT EX CO".

The background shows two buildings on Main Street. The brick building on the right is part of the Mill complex at 150 Main Street. Note the employees getting some fresh air (or just photobombing) in some of the windows. The other building, on the left, appears to be 149 Main Street.
