Title
John Flaherty
Description
John Flaherty, a native of Maynard, was in his second year as an American League Baseball Umpire, and while umpiring behind the plate in a game at Washington D.C. between the Senators and the Yankees, had one of his decisions at home plate disputed quite vociferously by President Eisenhower, who was attending the ball game. Several newspaper clippings show John in his exciting professional moments. Another newspaper clipping shows John being disputed on a decision by Ralph Houck, Manager of the NY Yankees. A newspaper article about John after her was retired.
