View of Assabet Mills taken from Main Street in 1867. At that time,Walnut Street was on the southern side of the river and ran from Main Street to Thompson Street. In 1872, the street was relocated on the northern side of the river, running from Main Street to Parker Street, and an iron bridge was built across the river on Walnut Street.
