Subject
The carhouse was destroyed by fire on the night of Jan. 25, 1918, the blaze breaking out in the one of the closed cars about 9:30 PM. By the time the men in the lobby over the office realized there was a fire in the building, it had made such a head start that a stream of water played on the flames made no impression.
When the fire department arrived, there was nothing that could be done. Twelve passenger cars, a snow plow, a work car and a large amount of wire and other construction materials were destroyed.
The brick walls remained standing and after the rubble had been cleared, the carhouse was rebuilt. The new structure essentially having the same architectural features as the original, but having only three tracks for 9 cars.
