Description
A five-dollar bill, issued during the Civil War. It was hand-numbered 46448 and has the printed date December 2nd, 1862. It features a picture of the Virginia State Capitol as well as a picture of Christopher G. Memminger, the first Secretary of the Treasury for the Confederate States of America. It is hand-signed by E. Earlich for Register and F. Wanz for Treasurer. The bill states that it is fundable in stocks or bonds of the Confederate States and that six months after the ratification of a Treaty of Peace between the Confederate States & the United States, the Confederate States of America will pay the bearer five dollars. After the war ended, this currency became officially worthless. This bill has several V-shaped cuts in it which indicate that it was cancelled.
