Title
Breads and Pastries at the Co-op
Description
Pastry Chef Rudolf Rolla (r) and an unidentified employee (l) show off a rather large submarine roll at the United Cooperative Society Store Bakery at 56-62 Main St.
Rudolf Rolla was the Pastry Chef at the Coop. His specialty was fancy German cakes and pastries. He started learning his trade in Germany at age 16. In 1976 he was voted New England's #1 Pastry Chef. For those who called him a baker he always corrected them: "Bakers make bread. I am a pastry chef!"
