Title
St. Casimir's Hosts Last Polish Picnic - 1987
Description
Newspaper article dated August 20, 1987, indicates that after 17 years, St. Casimir's parish held its last Polish Picnic. St. Casimir's was a small parish of only about 100 families, and the parishioners were aging. They no longer had enough assistance to put on the event, which was originally devised as a fundraiser to cover large expenses such as for a new roof or furnace. Proceeds from the final picnic were planned to be used to paint and carpet the church, renovate the hall, and convert to gas heat, in anticipation of the church's 75th anniversary.
The picnic followed a polka mass. Attendees danced under the trees, enjoyed Polish and American food, shopped for craft items, and played a variety of games.
