A photograph of downtown Maynard (Main and Nason Streets) showing a number of local businesses at that time.
The photograph was donated by McWalter Volunteer Insurance whose office at the time was located on 81 Main Street (the Maynard Trust Company building). On the side of the building is the name Bubier-Riley Insurance which took over the building in 1965 when Maynard Trust Company merged with Middlesex County National Bank (later renamed to Middlesex Bank).
The second photo is dated from a similar period and shows Bubier-Riley Insurance office in Bedford. Bubier-Riley Insurance was founded in 1952 by Fredrick H. Bubier ("Ted"). In the mid-1970s Bubier-Riley insurance was renamed to Volunteer Insurance and then merged in 1999 to become McWalter Volunteer Insurance. This also included Joseph Cleary Insurance of Maynard.
Other businesses visible include: Glen Jackson (dentist), Boucher's (cosmetics), True Value Hardware, The Taco Maker, Village Jewelry, Dom's Barbershop, Woolworth's
