The newspaper articles appeared in the Maynard Enterprise and the Maynard Beacon. The sportswriter for both newspapers was Al Cowels, a Maynard resident and high school graduate. Even in game losses he had a way of writing that made everyone look good. His articles never contained criticism; after a loss the coaches provided that. He handed out positive nick names such as “Iron” Mike Barrett and Bill “Boom-Boom” Bigusiak.
In addition to his direct coverage of the games and the sport, Al Cowles wrote a weekly column titled “Maynard Sportlites”. This was about all Maynard sports and the players past and current. It was the first item the players would go to past in the paper. It contained a lot of facts and stories that were well read by everyone who ever played here or were just fans.
The photographers for the games were “Eddy” Deane and “Swat” Warila. There were also photos used from David Hietanen a member of the Maynard High School Class of 1966.
