Railroad Bridge Removal - 1982
Description
This was the B&M railroad bridge over the Assabet River. The Maynard DPW was in charge of the removal. The Raynor Scrap Company of Worcester, MA had the demolition contract. The I beams on the center span was brought to MBTA yard in Somerville, MA with the actual rails on the top. The rest was disposed of as scrap.
The earth embankments on both sides of the river were completely removed. The granite blocks that made up the supporting piers where distributed along the banks of the river.
