Thomas Wouldhave was the first druggist in Maynard (Assabet Village) and was the founder of what would later become Johnson Pharmacy. Wouldhave store was located in his home on the corner of Main and River Streets. When Benjamin Johnson acquired the business he moved it to Maynard's Block (Masonic Block) on Main Street. In Ben Johnson's day the Post Office was located in the drug store, Ernest Johnson was the Postmaster until 1892. Later when the telephone was introduced to Maynard, it was Johnson Pharmacy that the first exchange was located.
