A letter from Mr. Robert Lewis Davis to his son (Francis), dated January 19, 1849, postmarked Concord, NH, January 26, 1849. Mr. Davis is a Civil Engineer living in Stow, Mass.

Before Maynard was incorporated (1871) the area in the vicinity of the woolen mill was referred to as Assabet Village. Not sure what the receipt was for however it looks like Amory Maynard received payment from Lydia Brooks or Thomas Brooks.

This group became Company I, Sixth Regiment Massachusetts Infantry at the time of the Spanish-American War.
The volunteers came from Acton, Concord, Townsend, Sudbury, Waltham, Malden, and two from Maynard: Fred Haigh Marsden and George Oram Rodan.
